Introduction:
The Bridwell Library invites applications for the position of Electronic Services Librarian.  Bridwell Library houses theological research collections serving the Perkins School of Theology and Southern Methodist University. Position Summary:
The Electronic Services Librarian will lead and promote Bridwell Library’s efforts in electronic services.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Web design and development;
  • Supporting and promoting technology use in teaching, learning and research;
  • Coordination of digital projects;
  • Participation in public service;
  • Overall implementation, supervision and basic trouble-shooting of the library’s computer hardware, software, and electronic resources as well as user training.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program (required) and an advanced degree in religion or theology (preferred).

Demonstrated experience with web design and electronic resources in academic libraries. Knowledge of current and emerging technologies. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and a strong commitment to public service. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Electronic Services and Systems Librarian (posted 5/31/07) 

Western Theological Seminary , Holland, MI

Responsibilities:
Management within the seminary of the automated library system and any other software shared with the Hope College Libraries, serving as a liaison with the Hope College Libraries systems librarian, implementing new electronic resources and services to support the seminary’s programs, management of the Beardslee Library section of the seminary website, serving as Beardslee Library liaison with students in the Distance Learning  M.Div. program, working with the director to provide training for faculty and students in using electronic resources, and developing library uses for the seminary’s course management software.

Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited degree in library or information science
  • Experience with automated library systems (Innovative Interfaces preferred), network management, course management software, website development and maintenance, Ereserve and Ejournal management, MS Office

Readers’ Services Librarian (posted 5/29/07)

The Masland Library at Philadelphia Biblical University is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Readers’ Services Librarian. 

Position Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for serving students, faculty and the public through handling patron requests, performing reference work, and teaching information literacy.  Working as a team with other professional librarians, the Readers’ Services Librarian will be on a rotating schedule including day, evening and Saturday hours. 

Qualifications:
Candidates are required to hold a master’s degree in library science and have previous experience in an academic library setting.   Experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc.’s Integrated Library System (Millennium) preferred.

Library Director (posted 5/18/07)

Turpin Library, Dallas Theological Seminary , Dallas , TX

Introduction:
Dallas Theological Seminary welcomes applications for the position of library director to begin in January, 2008. Dallas Seminary is a non-denominational, evangelical graduate school of theology with approximately 2,000 students and 60 full-time faculty. The seminary offers 10 degree programs: six M.A., Th.M., S.T.M., D.Min., and Ph.D.

The library comprises two buildings of about 58,000 square feet, and 210,000 volumes. It has 12 well-trained, full-time staff plus several part-time student employees.

Position Summary:
The Director is responsible for all operations of Turpin Library in keeping with the seminary’s mission. The Director sets policy; participates in strategic planning; develops and promotes library resources and services; manages appropriate technologies; proposes and manages the library budget; and oversees library furnishings and equipment, the archives, and the Media Center .

The Director also develops the manuscript, print, microform, and electronic collections; provides for the delivery of appropriate reference and instructional services to students, faculty and staff; selects and supervises the library staff; and ensures that appropriate library services are provided at the seminary extension sites.

The Director has administrative faculty status and reports to the vice president for academic affairs. There will be appointments to two or three faculty committees. There may be opportunity to teach in a field of specialization.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have the following:

  • Master’s degree in library science (MLS) from an ALA accredited school
  • Master’s degree or preferably a doctoral degree in biblical studies, theology, or a closely related field
  • Expertise in theological literature and knowledge of the major languages of the theological disciplines
  • Successful leadership experience in library administration for at least five years
  • Understanding of and full support of the seminary’s mission and philosophy of education
  • Strong evangelical faith, Christian character, and full agreement with the seminary’s doctrinal and community life statements

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications. Basic benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, fitness club membership, health care insurance, and retirement plan.

Introduction:
Denver Seminary is a graduate school for theological education building a transformational global community in partnership with the church to equip leaders for the 21st century to think biblically, live faithfully and lead wisely for a lifetime.

General statement of duties:
The Head of Public Services is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining library public services including reference, information literacy, bibliographic instruction, reference guides and collection aids.  This includes facilitating communication between library and other seminary departments to promote and train individuals to access library information and use library databases.  The Public Services Librarian oversees the reference collection and coordinates reference resources with the Collection Management Librarian.  Qualifications: MLS or equivalent degree required.   Seminary degree preferred.  Computer skills required.  Experience with OCLC, Dynix, FirstSearch, ATLA Religion, highly desired.  Excellent management and organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively and clearly.  Two years of experience managing theological library reference services and operations.  Good interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills required.

Must be able to sign without mental reservation the Statement of Faith provided through the Seminary's personnel office and be able to support the mission of Denver Seminary as well as the mission of the library.  Knowledge of the Seminary's degree programs and curriculum is needed.

Supervisor of the Public Services Team (posted 5/8/07)

St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Wynnewood, PA 19096

Position Summary: 
Under the supervision of the St. Charles Borromeo library director, this position is responsible for the management of reference and acquisitions services; teaching information literacy; supervising the work of professional and paraprofessional personnel and overseeing aspects of the library’s rare book collection. This position manages the library in director’s absence.

Qualifications:  
This position requires a Master of Library Science degree from an accredited University.  A second Master’s in Theology or a related field is desirable. The applicant should have the ability to work individually and as a team member; a strong service orientation and excellent communication skills; current technology skills; and be willing to work occasional evenings. The ideal candidate would possess 3 years post-MLS experience and a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in libraries. We are looking for an optimistic, creative, customer-oriented individual with a 21st Century vision.

Vehr Library is looking for a creative individual to join our staff in the full-time position of Reference Librarian. Vehr Library serves St. John Vianney Seminary, the Archdiocese of Denver, and the wider community. Its holdings include over 150,000 books, with subscriptions to hundreds of print and thousands of online periodicals.

Position Summary:
The Reference Librarian is part of a vibrant seminary community, and his or her primary responsibilities include:

  • providing reference services – helping students, faculty, and outside patrons in research
  • providing instruction in the use of the library and online resources
  • maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the collection
  • ordering and cataloging new books
  • handling invoices and assisting Director with budget and finances

Qualifications:
The qualified candidate will have library experience and a degree in library science and/or theology. A background in finance, technology and/or foreign languages is a plus. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and self-direction.

Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $34,000 plus full benefits.

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the GTU library director, this position is responsible for developing policies and procedures related to the public services of the library and interpreting those policies to the GTU community; coordinating library access services (circulation, interlibrary loan, mailroom, and space/facilities management) and reference services; serving on the public service desks of the library; teaching in the library’s information literacy program; and overseeing aspects of the library’s technology program.

Minimum qualifications:
Education: undergraduate degree; MLS degree; master’s degree in a subject area, preferably in an area of religion or theology.

Ability to work independently and also as a member of the Library Management Team; strong service orientation and excellent communication skills; 5 to 10 years of experience in the circulation and reference departments of an academic library, preferably as a supervisor; experience using technology to advance library services.  Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Required / desired skills: experience using Innovative Interfaces’ ERM and WAM modules; experience in the management of electronic subscriptions; and basic HTML for updating web pages.
